iOS essentials

Google

We’re not sure how we managed to get you here, but it is a good refresher of Google. Although it is not Android, Google’s iOS app works perfectly on iOS. It provides all the super-powered search capabilities you’ve come to know and love, including who won the 1958 Soccer World Cup (Brazil) or what nearby restaurants are still accepting orders. All data from your Google account will be synchronized across. It’ll also push any news or events it believes you might be interested to the top of the app whenever you bring them up. A great app that is always worth downloading.

Messenger

Facebook Messenger is a standalone text messaging application that allows you to chat with friends and others who have the app installed. It’s also free to use, and you don’t need to be signed in to Facebook. This app is highly recommended for the volume of messaging via Facebook. However, it’s a bit disappointing that the Facebook app no longer has messaging functionality and takes up another spot on your homepage.

Microsoft Edge

Although we wouldn’t have predicted that a Microsoft-made browser would make it to our top-of list, things change. Microsoft Edge is our current choice for the best mobile web browser on iOS. It is fast and smooth, but it also has many useful features such as the couponing feature which finds coupons that are relevant for shopping, advanced privacy protection tools, an ad blocking feature, a feature that allows you to throw webpages directly onto the desktop version, and much more.

YouTube

You probably already have YouTube. Anyone who doesn’t has YouTube is seriously missing out. YouTube is essential. If you don’t have YouTube, it doesn’t matter. Download it now. YouTube is no longer an iOS must-have. It was removed by Apple in iOS 6. Google has since brought it back. YouTube is used by millions of people every day to upload videos. This means that YouTube has a huge collection of videos from all walks of life, from video game enthusiasts to mommy bloggers to those who love to disassemble their phones. YouTube Premium is a subscription-based service. It allows you to download playlists and view them offline. You can also play back videos with a locked screen. You’ll pay $12 per month, but YouTube Premium is still great, so don’t feel like you’re missing out.

Instagram

Although Instagram may now be owned by Facebook it is still the best social media network for sharing photos and ruining them using silly filters. Although we say it is ruining, we have X Pro II for just about anything. It’s possible to follow people and specific interests, which makes it an excellent place for inspiration. You don’t have to post a lot of photos if you aren’t a great photographer. Just browse the homepage and take in the shots taken by others you follow.
